  30. The clone maker Pentium speed wars are in for some changes.  Anyone  
  31. contemplating purchasing a Pentium system may want to wait a few  
  32. months to see how things shake out.  This is due to the fact that  
  33. Intel has introduced a new Pentium motherboard chipset.  The old  
  34. Intel chipset was Neptune, the new chipset is Triton.  With the new  
  35. motherboard chipset will come a new generation of motherboards that  
  36. should be cheaper and faster than the current ones.

  39. One of the first announced clone systems using the Triton chipset is  
  40. the Micron Millenium 100 MHz Pentium.  It uses a next generation  
  41. Micronics motherboard.  Early benchmarks indicate it is up to 20%  
  42. faster than the current crop of 100 MHz Pentium machines.  I'm sure  
  43. other clone makers will soon be introducing their own systems using  
  44. the new motherboards, so it may be wise to hold off a purchase until  
  45. these new systems are more common.  (Or order a Micron system now and  
  46. hope these first systems are solid.  Expected delivery time for  
  47. orders placed today is 8 weeks.)

  49. (BTW, the motherboard is the thing you should be most concerned with  
  50. when shopping for a PC.  Micronics and Intel motherboards seem to be  
  51. among the faster and more reliable makes.  An example of slow  
  52. motherboard would be any Pentium PCI/VLB hybrid motherboard using the  
  53. OPTI chipset.)
